INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Fara’s 20 years of experience and education has allowed her to have a unique approach to therapy. Each individual collaborates with her to establish goals and develop solutions that provide positive change and healing. Therapeutic techniques that are strength-based and solution-focused allow the client to have hope for a better future. Participating in a nutritional/health assessment allows Fara to make lifestyle recommendations to fully treat the brain and body. If body chemistry is out of balance, it can be hard to think positively, make good decisions, get appropriate sleep, exercise, and move towards complete healing. Positive lifestyle change and restoration of health is the ultimate goal.

TRAUMA THERAPY

Unfortunately, trauma is a fact of life. We can experience different types of trauma: childhood sexual abuse; physical violence either observed or experienced; growing up with alcoholic parents; growing up with a narcissistic parent; Veterans and their families dealing with the painful aftermath of combat; car accidents; loss of a loved one; divorce. These are just a few of the many traumas we can face in life. Sadly, trauma sufferers frequently pass on their stress to their partners and children.

Untreated trauma patients are often labeled bipolar, or sometimes even ADHD, because the symptoms are misunderstood. Left untreated, trauma can last a lifetime.

Fara has spent countless hours in training to stay current with best practices regarding trauma treatment. Her goal is to provide a safe environment to help her clients walk through the healing process and find new life.

She is EMDR Level II Certified (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). This technique is used to help with the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is common in trauma. When a distressing or traumatic experience occurs, it may overwhelm normal coping mechanisms that keep a person “trapped” in their emotional experience. Trauma therapy provides a solution to move past the trauma and into healing and new life.

CHILD TRAUMA THERAPY (2½ -18 years old)

Trauma focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment approach shown to help children, adolescents, and their caregivers overcome trauma-related difficulties. It is designed to reduce negative emotional and behavioral responses following traumatic events such as child sexual abuse, domestic violence, traumatic loss, and other situations. The treatment addresses distorted beliefs related to the abuse and provides a supportive environment in which children are encouraged to talk about their traumatic experience. TF-CBT also helps parents who were not abusive to cope effectively with their own emotional distress and develop skills that support their children.

Fara often works with local law enforcement, District Attorneys’ offices, and child protective services to help victims of a traumatic crime.

THERAPY FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS (2½ -18 years old)

Fara has worked with thousands of children throughout her career. She has specialized training in Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood. She also specializes with children grade school through high school. Children are often referred by pediatricians and school counselors due to social and/or behavioral problems, poor coping skills, low self-esteem issues, etc. She utilizes play therapy, art therapy, emotional regulation and behavioral modification. A nutritional/health assessment is part of therapy with children, as many behavioral and emotional problems can be misdiagnosed as a mental health condition when the root cause may be poor diet, food sensitivities, dyes, poor sleep, and lack of nutrition. Parents are participants in therapy because a child cannot experience change without the support and love of their parents.

FAMILY THERAPY

Family therapy has been provided to countless families throughout the 20 years Fara has been a Social Worker. Family is a system in which the members are acting and reacting to one another. The goal of family therapy is to improve functioning, change negative patterns of interaction, establish healthy boundaries, and build positive relationships among family members. Problems within the family system are addressed and treatment and goals are established for the family. A nutritional/health assessment for the family is part of the treatment plan to ensure that all family members have optimal functioning and reasoning.
